GENDER DIVISION PERMANENT SECRETARY, MS MAINGA KABIKA REMINDS NIPA FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS TO FOCUS

PS Mainga Kabika has urged NIPA students to focus on studies and avoid indulging substances abuse, clubbing or sexual activities , She urged them to recognise the sacrifices that their parents and guardians have made aswel as the students own input.
Ms Kabika further warned lecturers against taking advantage of students, stating that engaging in sexual activities with students in exchange for high marks would lead to severe consequences, including losing their license to lecture.
She emphasized that gender equality is central to national development, highlighting the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and equal participation.
She cited the enactment of progressive constitutional provisions, including Bill 7, which promotes gender equity in decision-making, creating a stronger legal foundation for increased representation of women in leadership positions.
The PS also highlighted programmes aimed at keeping girls in school, which have improved retention and completion rates, expanding opportunities for higher education, skills development, and economic empowerment.
Ms Kabika reminded students to make the most of the opportunities available to them, cautioning against illicit activities such as drugs and going to clubs.
She said this during an orientation meeting with the first year students at NIPA this afternoon.
