The Government has taken a major step towards strengthening women’s economic empowerment with the launch of the Gender and Women Technical Working Group (TWG) under the Public-Private Dialogue Forum.
Speaking during the 4th Private Sector Day, President Hakainde Hichilema reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to supporting women in business, emphasising that empowering women is essential for job creation, innovation, and sustainable economic growth. He welcomed the establishment of the TWG as a strategic platform to advance inclusive reforms and dismantle long-standing barriers faced by women entrepreneurs.
Permanent Secretary, Gender Division, Mrs. Mainga D. Kabika, noted that the TWG will drive gender-responsive reforms and ensure that women are fully included in national development processes. She highlighted that the platform will support policy review, promote inclusive financing models, and enhance coordination between Government, private sector stakeholders, and cooperating partners.
The new TWG will:
Promote evidence-based dialogue on gender and business
Review policies affecting women-led enterprises
Support access to finance and inclusive markets
Strengthen collaboration between Government, the private sector, and partners
Mrs. Kabika emphasised that “empowering women is not only about equity—it is a smart investment in Zambia’s future.”
The establishment of the TWG marks a significant step towards unlocking opportunities for women entrepreneurs and strengthening their contribution to the national economy.
