GENDER DIVISION SUPPORTS AGRICULTURE MINISTRY’S GENDER MAINSTREAMING EFFORTS

Government through the Ministry of Agriculture has launched the revised Gender Mainstreaming Toolkit and Terms of Reference for Gender Focal Points which will help in strengthening gender equality across the agriculture sector.
The Gender Division through the department of Gender In Development -GID, has since provided the technical expertise in the consultations and review of the initial Gender Mainstreaming tool kit in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The GID Director, Henry Nkhoma, said the Division has also participated in the training of agricultural gender focal point persons on the use of the tool kit and Terms of Reference- TORs.
The initiative, supported by GIZ, aims to ensure equality and inclusivity in the Agriculture sector.
“The Gender Division will continue to monitor the use of the toolkit and provide follow up capacity building to ensure the effective implementation of Gender Mainstreaming strategies.” Mr Nkhoma emphasized.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of acting Permanent Secretary, Lemmy Kafwamfwa, Bernard Mumba, Chief Economist in the Ministry of Agriculture said the revised toolkit represents an important progression in the Ministry’s efforts to make the agricultural sector more inclusive and sustainable.
