Maheba Resettlement Camp, North-Western Province — October 13, 2025
The Permanent Secretary for the Gender Division, Mrs. Mainga D. Kabika, has called for strengthened collective action to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in refugee settlements.
During her visit to Maheba Refugee Resettlement Camp, Mrs. Kabika held an interactive session with camp leaders and departmental heads, emphasizing that refugee settings often heighten the risk of GBV due to poverty, displacement, and weakened family structures. She urged all stakeholders to work together to challenge harmful cultural norms, encourage GBV reporting, and ensure that survivors access comprehensive, survivor-centred services, including healthcare, legal aid, and psychosocial support.
Mrs. Kabika further highlighted the importance of engaging men and boys as key partners in promoting gender equality and fostering peaceful, inclusive communities. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to collaborate closely with humanitarian agencies and local communities to eliminate GBV and build safe environments where everyone can live free from violence and discrimination.
