UNICEF AND GENDER DIVISION JOIN FORCES TO EMPOWER EVERY GIRL CHILD

Dr. Nejmudin K. Blar, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Zambia, today, paid a courtesy call on the Gender Division Permanent Secretary Ms. Mainga D. Kabika,
to navigate ways of strengthening collaboration between UNICEF and the Division.
The meeting was aimed at advancing the gender equality agenda and protecting the rights of every child in Zambia.
Gender inequality continues to fuel challenges such as teenage pregnancy, child marriage, and Gender Based Violence (GBV), issues that have continued to deprive girls of their rights to education, safety, and opportunities.
Ms. Kabika expressed appreciation to UNICEF for its continued partnership and support for President Hakainde Hichilema in his role as African Union Champion for Ending Child Marriage (ECM)—a leadership position that continues to inspire the cause across the African continent.
The discussions further highlighted preparations for the official launch of the Ending Child Marriage (ECM) Strategy and Customary By-laws, which aim to strengthen community-level protection mechanisms for girls.
In collaboration, the Gender Division and UNICEF concluded on reaffirming their shared commitment to building a Zambia—and an Africa—where every girl grows up empowered, safe, and free.
