COMMONWEALTH WOMEN’S FORUM 2024 WRAPS UP IN APIA, SAMOA, ACHIEVING KEY MILESTONES AND OUTCOMES

The 2024 Commonwealth Women’s Forum concluded on a high note, with the Gender Division well-represented, following a series of productive discussions and strategic planning to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality within the Commonwealth.
 
The Gender Division delegation, led by its Permanent Secretary, Mainga Kabika, was in Apia to participate in the esteemed gathering of women leaders, activists and policymakers from across the Commonwealth.
This high profile event, held in conjunction with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2024), provided a critical platform for addressing the most pressing challenges facing women today.
 
The Head of Delegation Seating in For The Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema was Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC; accompanied By PS Gender Division office of The President Mainga Kabika , PS Ministry of Sport Kangwa Chileshe and PS Foreign Affairs Etambuyu Anamela. Among others was HE High Commissioner United Kingdom Ms Macenje Mazoka and HE Ambassador Australia Elias Munshya were also present at the CHOGM2024, in Apia, Samoa.
During the pre-CHOGM sessions, member states presented their national reports, aligning with the event’s theme.
Various state representatives engaged in intense discussions surrounding dialogue, while sharing best practices and collaboration on key actions and policy recommendations, with a focus on the achievement of Gender equality and Equity with the forum’s commitment to empowering women and youth in driving change.
 
The event that comprised of diverse voices and expertise, also tackled issues surrounding Climate change hinged on Gender related issues and economic empowerment.
The Commonwealth Secretary General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC gave her opening speech at the Women’s Forum, the CHOGM 2024.
 
The conclusion of the Commonwealth forum further saw the selection of Ghana’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Honorable Shirley Ayorkor Botchey, as incoming Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, by Heads of Government.
This just contributed to the advancement of championing gender equality and serves as a testament to its leadership’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
