The Gender Division, as the institution mandated to promote gender equity and equality in the country, wishes to condemn in its strongest possible terms the unwarranted attacks on the President, the first Lady and Ms. Chipo Mwanawasa.
These attacks are not only criminal but amount to Cyber Bullying and Gender Based Violence.
The Division supports the Police investigations and will work closely with line institutions to ensure that the process is expedited so that the culprits are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to would be perpetrators.
These allegations may have future repercussions on the appointment of women to serve in high offices including state house as this was clearly aimed at creating discomfort for Ms. Mwanawasa to work at State House.
Further, such allegations may discourage the appointing authorities to appoint females in high positions of decision making.
The continued attacks on females serving in instrumental positions in the country is detrimental to the attainment of Gender Equity and Equality.
The Gender Division therefore strongly condemns such insinuations and machinations.
