Gender Minister Elizabeth Phiri says Government has continued to implement the national strategy on ending child marriage using a multi-sectoral approach.
Ms. Phiri adds that Government is working with traditional leaders as critical agents of change in its effort to eliminate child marriage.
She says Government has adopted guidelines to protect the girl child from early and forced marriages.
The Minister was speaking when she delivered a speech at a virtual high-level event on early child and forced marriages, organized by the United Nations.
Ms. Phiri noted that an increasing number of girls are being withdrawn from marriages and enrolled back to school, though the gains are being threatened by the COVID 19 pandemic disrupting the school system.
She said government remains resolute to ensuring that child and forced marriages are ended by 2030.
